Award Season; Future QSR; Plastic Diet; Hot, Hot, Hot…
And the Winner Is— Now that we’re done with the most wonderful time of the year, it’s time to recognize our favorite things… We’re not talking music or movies. This year’s Best Overall Diet Award goes to… the same winner as last year, and the year before, and even the year before that. The Mediterranean Diet keeps racking up the gold, beating out keyto (yes “keyto”) flexitarian, vegetarian… you get the drift. Part of its appeal? You don’t have to stick to food native to the Mediterranean region to pull it off. What’s Up in QSR— Lessons from the pandemic have been learned. Change has been embraced. Most of us know what ‘ghost kitchens’ are, and people still serve us our food even if we ordered it digitally (Ahem!) What’s ahead for QSR? A focus on breakfast, value, and technology. You’re Eating It— I learned two things today: 1) Sewage sludge is a byproduct of municipal wastewater cleaning; 2) this sludge is often used as fertilizer in the growth of edible crops (read that again if you have to). Because so much of the world’s water is contaminated with “forever chemicals,” (commonly found in plastics, they do not break down), they can be found not only in oceans and on remote, uninhabited beaches, but in our soil, (because we put it there). Yep. Finally— Get ‘em while they’re hot; which apparently, is always.
