Ciao Domino’s; On the Verge; Cracking the Code; Changing Habits; Less Plastic, Please?; Ring the Bell
Pizza Problems?— In 2015, Domino’s opened their first shop, in Italy, of all places. A total of 29 locations existed in the country. Past tense, (as in they are ALL now closed). Apparently, they couldn’t handle the local competition. Or, maybe everyone’s going keto? War & Climate Change— Record breaking heat across the globe and six months of war (that’s still going on); it’s all wreaking havoc on food supply chains, creating food insecurity, and pushing as many as 50 million people to the brink of famine. To Code or Not To Code— If you’ve eaten out post-pandemic, you’ve probably encountered the QR code menu solution. It involves using your phone to… you get it. Apparently, people hate it. But it solves some onerous problems for restaurant folk. A better digital menu experience might solve the problem. Inflation Diet— Households making less than $75,000 a year eat almost 90% of their meals and snacks at home; a lot of it is shelf-stable or from the frozen aisle, not fresh or necessarily healthy. Why? Hint: one word. This is the Way— Zero waste stores are finally becoming a thing, because there’s too much plastic; everywhere. Ironically, cutting waste isn’t cheap. Yet (hopefully). Finally— Ding!
