Unregulated— Not too long ago, CBD was having a moment; and it seemed we were on the verge of CBD everything. Now, more and more states have made recreational cannabis legal, but, the FDA has made the decision NOT to regulate it’s use in food and beverage products, and that’s NOT great..  Cau-Fil-A— The Chick-Fil-A advertising cows begged us to “Eat more Chick’n.” Now the chickens may start asking us to eat more cauliflower. The chicken sandwich giant is hopping on the plant-based train with a new cauliflower sandwich; being testing in three markets, available February 13th. Farewell Fromage— Alleva Dairy, a Little Italy NYC institution and America’s oldest cheese shop, is closing its doors after 130 years. The rent is to too damn high. Comfort Food— Did you ever stop and think, pizza is kinda like an open-faced grilled cheese with tomato soup? No? Well, did you know that pizza has FIVE different celebratory days during the year? Nat’l Pizza Day is just one, and it was this week. Big Game Recovery— The Super Bowl is one of the biggest food holidays of the year, and while many of us will be busy scarfing down wings, or nachos, or seven layer dip; the Food Recovery Network will be busy collecting surplus food from the stadium to redistribute to people in need.
